Corporate Business Support Manager for Watford Clarendon BID

Watford Clarendon BID is a newly established Business Improvement District launched on 1 April 2026 following a successful ballot of local businesses.

The BID represents 113 hereditaments across approximately 80 businesses located primarily along Clarendon Road, Watford’s main office district, alongside a section of Station Road including Watford Junction Station and surrounding retail and hospitality businesses.

Clarendon Road is one of Hertfordshire’s most significant commercial office locations, home to a wide range of organisations including major corporate headquarters, professional services firms, technology companies and regional offices, alongside smaller independent businesses, cafés and service providers that support the daily workforce.

Watford Clarendon BID has been established to deliver projects and initiatives that enhance the business environment, support companies and employees, strengthen partnerships and promote the area as a key commercial destination. The BID will deliver a five-year business plan (2026–2031) developed in collaboration with levy paying businesses.

The BID works closely with Watford Borough Council, transport partners, property owners and businesses to support a thriving, well-connected and attractive commercial district.

Role Title: Corporate Business Support Manager

Salary: £31,000 – £33,000

Service Area: Business Improvement District Industry

Hours: Full Time – 37 hours per week

Reporting to: CEO

Purpose of the Role

The Corporate Business Support Manager will play a key role in supporting the delivery of the Watford Clarendon BID Business Plan (2026–2031), ensuring the BID delivers meaningful support, services and initiatives that respond to the needs of businesses within the district.

The role will focus on business engagement, programme delivery and governance support, working closely with levy paying businesses ranging from micro businesses and independent operators through to major corporate organisations and senior leadership teams.

The Corporate Business Support Manager will develop strong relationships with businesses across the district, identify opportunities for support initiatives and contribute to the strategic development of the BID.

Key Responsibilities:

Business Engagement and Relationship Management

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with all levy paying businesses across the Clarendon BID area.
  • Engage effectively with a diverse business community including independent businesses, SMEs, corporate offices and major employers.
  • Build relationships with senior leadership teams and office managers within large organisations.
  • Act as a key point of contact for businesses seeking support from BID.
  • Conduct regular business meetings and maintain up-to-date knowledge of business activity within the district.
  • Maintain accurate records of levy payer information within the BID database.

Business Support and Business Plan Delivery

  • Identify and deliver initiatives that support businesses operating within a major office-based commercial district.
  • Develop programmes that enhance the experience of employees working within the Clarendon area.
  • Identify opportunities for collaboration between businesses, property owners and partners.
  • Coordinate initiatives relating to business wellbeing, sustainability, networking, training and economic growth.
  • Support retail and hospitality businesses located on Station Road and surrounding areas.
  • Ensure BID initiatives deliver measurable value to levy payers.
  • Governance and BID Management
  • Support the BID Manager in ensuring strong governance arrangements are maintained for Watford Clarendon BID.
  • Assist with the coordination and management of the BID Governance Committee.
  • Prepare reports, updates and performance summaries for the BID Board.
  • Support monitoring and reporting of the BID Business Plan delivery.
  • Assist with financial and operational reporting where required.
  • Ensure BID activities are delivered in line with governance, transparency and accountability standards expected of Business Improvement Districts.

Stakeholder and Partnership Working

  • Work collaboratively with partners including Watford Borough Council, transport organisations, property owners and local stakeholders.
  • Support initiatives that improve the business environment along Clarendon Road and surrounding areas.
  • Contribute to projects that improve connectivity with Watford Junction Station and the wider town centre.

Events, Networking and Communications

  • Support the development and delivery of business networking opportunities and corporate engagement events.
  • Coordinate initiatives that encourage collaboration across the Clarendon business community.
  • Assist with communications to levy paying businesses including newsletters, updates and consultations.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Experience working in a business-facing role, economic development environment or Business Improvement District.
  • Ability to communicate confidently with both small independent businesses and senior leadership teams within large organisations.
  • Strong relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience delivering business support initiatives, programmes or projects.
  • Understanding of the needs and priorities of office-based business districts.
  • Experience supporting governance structures such as boards or committees.
  • Ability to prepare clear, professional reports and briefing documents.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
