Watford Borough Council is excited to announce the return of the Big Beach, a summer attraction that transforms The Parade in the Town Centre into a sandy oasis.
From 16 August to 30 August 2024, families and individuals of all ages can revel in the joy of a beach experience without the need to travel to the coast. By bringing the beach to the heart of the town, it provides residents and visitors an opportunity to bask in the summer sun, build sandcastles, and enjoy a range of exciting beach activities.
Big Beach is completely free to attend, offering a fantastic chance for everyone to indulge in the quintessential beach experience. Throughout the two-week event, visitors to Big Beach will have access to a wide array of beach toys, including buckets and spades, available at the beach hut.
There will also be free activities organised each day by Bowerbirdy Watford, who run the ever-popular Wat’s On programme during the easter and summer holidays.
The beach hut will also serve as an information centre, providing any details or assistance required. Open from 10am to 4pm daily, the beach hut is there to enhance your Big Beach experience. For those looking for refreshments, visitors are encouraged to bring their own food and drinks or take advantage of the wonderful nearby restaurants surrounding the area.
Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: “I am excited to welcome the Big Beach back to The Parade. Every year, The Big Beach brings the seaside atmosphere right to the heart of Watford and provides a fun and free way to spend the day with the family. I would encourage everyone to head down, relax in one of the deckchairs, take part in beach games or build sandcastles.”
Deputy Mayor of Watford and Portfolio Holder for Community, Councillor Aga Dychton, said: “Big Beach in Watford presents an incredible opportunity for residents and visitors to immerse themselves in the joys of summer without venturing far from home. The sand opens imagination, bringing fun for all and helping everyone feel more relaxed.
“Don’t miss this chance to create treasured memories and enjoy the sand between your toes. The Big Beach is completely free, and you can join us at The Parade in the Town Centre from 16 August to 30 August. Let Big Beach bring the beach to you!”
