An event that will blend the best of local food, music, and culture, all in honour of our new king, will be held at Watford Market next month (May).
‘Market Lates – Celebrate the King’s Coronation Special’ – a night market event – will take place on Friday 5 May from 6pm to 10pm within the covered space. It will feature a line-up of local vendors, offering a diverse range of food, drinks, and crafts – all fit for a king. From traditional dishes to modern twists on old favourites, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.
To coincide with the era of the King’s birth, there will be live music from The Jivettes’, an all singing, all dancing, fabulous, retro trio, playing two sets throughout the evening. So, make sure your quiffs are high and your spirits higher, as we sing and swing you back in time to the 1950s. The era of Rock’n’Roll!
Whilst costumes are not required, those who come along are encouraged to dress up as knights, dames, nobles, and other dignitaries, all dressed in their finest regalia. Visitors can also dress up in 1950’s inspired fashion, such as tailored dresses with full skirts, large overcoats with fur trim, polka dot prints, poodle skirts, saddle shoes, padded suit coats and double-breasted suits.
With King Charles busy preparing for his coronation at Westminster Abbey on Saturday 6 May, he unfortunately will not be able to visit Watford Market like he once did on 21 February 1978, where he attended the official opening ceremony of Charter House, the previous location of the market.
