Watford Borough Council’s flagship networking event, Watford Business Connect, took place on Tuesday 8 July at The Business Lounge, West Herts College. Hosted by Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, the event brought together over 70 local business leaders for an afternoon of insight, discussion and networking.

The event provided a unique opportunity for Watford-based businesses to engage directly with the council, hear updates on key developments and share their perspectives on the town’s economic future. It also reaffirmed the council’s commitment to supporting a thriving, inclusive and resilient local economy.

The event opened with some very positive updates from Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, Chief Executive of Watford Borough Council, Donna Nolan and Cherie Norris, Economic Development Manager, Watford Borough Council.

Topics covered included: recent awards and recognition for the town, the Watford Actually place brand and major regeneration plans including the Town Hall Quarter.

Following the break, Lisa Mart, General Manager of Watford Colosseum at AEG Presents, delivered a keynote session on the upcoming reopening of the venue and its role in boosting Watford’s cultural and economic vibrancy.

The afternoon culminated in a dynamic panel discussion on the Watford Business Pledge, highlighting the work of businesses making a meaningful difference in the community.

Watford Business Pledge panellists included:

  • Cheryl Machen – Resintek
  • Hulya Kozan – Internet Smart Business Solutions (ISBS Ltd)
  • Sam Grubb – CleanTEC Services
  • Saffron Johnson – Watford Chamber (representing the Pledge judging panel)

Reflecting on the event, Elected Mayor Peter Taylor said:

“It was fantastic to see so many local businesses come together. Events like this are vital for building relationships, sharing ideas, and strengthening our local economy. I’m proud of what Watford’s business community is achieving and excited about what lies ahead.”

Cherie Norris, Economic Development Manager, Watford Borough Council added:

“It was a pleasure to welcome so many businesses to Watford Business Connect – both first time attendees and familiar faces. We received great feedback on the value of the updates shared, the range of local support available and for the chance to network with fellow business leaders.

“There’s always a brilliant buzz at Watford business events and we look forward to more events like this in the future. A big thank you to West Herts College for hosting us in their excellent Business Lounge.”

Watford Business Connect forms part of the council’s wider programme of support for local businesses and continues to serve as a valuable platform for collaboration, innovation and progress.

Businesses interested in joining the Watford Business Pledge can access a range of resources designed to help them qualify for an award. The council will guide businesses through the application process and facilitating connections with other local enterprises.
